Leadership Fortuna participants (past and present) got to tour Humboldt Redwood Company's Scotia Sawmill. Sal Chinnici and Mike Richardson gave us an up close, behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a mill dedicated to ethical and environmentally sustainable practices.

Humboldt Redwood Company was formed in July 2008. Certified to the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), Humboldt Redwood works to cultivate a lasting legacy of environmentally responsible forestry practices. The company’s Redwood and Douglas-fir timberland operations encompass 327 square miles (209,300 acres). The company has access to another half million acres through a long-term log purchase agreement with Green Diamond Resource Company. HRC’s timberlands and manufacturing operations became FSC certified shortly after the company was formed. FSC is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that promotes the responsible management of the world’s forests.
