What a treat seeing the new 110 foot aerial fire truck recently purchased by the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department. After many years of budgeting and planning, the Department was able to write a check for $1.1 million, saving the District over $69,000 by purchasing it outright. Commissioner Dave Nicholson thanked the community for their support. Chief Lon Winburn spoke about the truck's features and benefit to the community and the history of the "push in" ceremony. After an introduction of the crew who will be operating the truck and a blessing, the "push in" ceremony commenced. We must have incredibly strong community members because that truck went in so easily!

Mayor Sue Long and myself got to take separate trips up into the air and the views were stunning (as were the freezing winds!!).

Congratulations to the fire department on this fantastic new truck and THANK YOU for all that you do for our community. Chief Winburn will be our guest speaker on Monday, May 6 at our weekly lunch meeting at the Monday Club (12p-1p). You won't want to miss it.

Leadership Fortuna is a 16-week program that exposes participants to the inner workings of the community through tours, presentations by City and County representatives, and attending local government or service club meetings. Each year they are tasked with coming up with a project that will benefit the community. They are responsible for fundraising and completing the project themselves. This year's group chose to partner with Sean Swanson of River Life Foundation and create a dedication plaque in honor of Dennis Wendt. A plaque, similar to the one pictured, designed by Simon Rios from Lotus Mountain, will be laid atop one of the large rocks at the entrance to welcome visitors to the Trail. Local businesses who have donated to the plaque's cost, will be honored by being listed on the plaque. We're excited to see it and will keep you posted on the date it gets installed.

Thank you to Cara Knostman at Lotus Mountain for printing this banner in time for the Grand Opening!

Fortuna Chamber of Commerce

The rain held off long enough yesterday for us to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Dennis Wendt Memorial Trail. It's fantastic how the community has rallied behind River Life Foundation to make this trail possible.
.
Congratulations to Sean Swanson on this huge accomplishment!
