On this day in 1973, Fortuna Chamber President William Jamieson presided over the chamber meeting, with 22 members and guests present. Mrs. Mary Heaton and her assistant, Rodney Coleman, Heaton Realty and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lightfoot, Main Street Cleaners, were introduced as new members. President Jamieson reported on the Downtown Development meeting. The committee headed by Larry Francesconi would meet with individual property owners to explain methods of financing. Jamieson stated that the plan would undergo changes with the times. An example would be the change in the Plan for 10th Street when the post office built its new quarters. Mrs. Beth Rundell suggested that an evening Town Hall type of meeting be arranged to explain to those citizens who own property on the periphery of the Plan that they would not need to worry about their homes being moved to make room for parking lots. Excerpts from correspondence from A.R. Houle, Post Master-Sectional Center Manager of Postal Service, in reply to the Chamber's request for improved mail distribution was read by President Jameson. Isolated cases of poor service where noted by Houle, rather than the general decline of service. The Chamber would continue to call attention to the service until Improvement was noted. The meeting was adjourned and recorded by Delight A. Barker, Secretary.

Fortuna Chamber of Commerce

We're all about River Otters at today's meeting.
.
Our guest speaker will be Jeff Black from Humboldt State's Department of Wildlife. The North Coast Otter Art Project is a public arts initiative that will commission 100 unique pieces of Otter Art to be displayed at businesses, galleries, schools, and other North Coast locations. Participating artists will decorate three-foot-tall otter sculptures for a summer 2020 educational art trail throughout Humboldt, Del Norte, and neighboring counties. The Otter Art will then be auctioned to raise funds to support our region’s grassroots watershed projects and HSU student internship opportunities.
.
Come meet Jeff and his Otter "Bunty" and learn how you can sponsor and display an Otter at your business.
.
The meeting will start at 12:00 p.m. at the Monday Club (610 Main Street). A $15.00 catered lunch (optional) will be provided by C.C. Catering.
