Request for Input From Fortuna Chamber of Commerce Members

● Introduction - It is well-established that vibrant and healthy small communities across our country have one thing in common; a strong and sustainable economy. Given the losses over the last 30 years within the historical economic anchors of the timber industry and more recently, the cannabis market, many believe Fortuna is facing significant economic challenges. An updated vision and plan for Fortuna’s economic future needs to be developed that moves away from the boom and bust cycles of the past and includes a more diversified and strengthened economy. Other communities facing these challenges have been successful. We can, too. Timing is good for these conversations. The City of Fortuna is undergoing a General Plan Update and Strategic Plan in 2026 and wants to include an economic development element with identified business needs in those plans. The city has asked for help and those involved are volunteering their time toward this effort.

A private sector led coordinating team representing nine business sectors in Fortuna is providing leadership and guidance and will develop a report to present to the City of Fortuna, with a request to include those findings in the General Plan Update and Strategic Plan. Those business sectors are:

- Ag/Horticulture/Natural Res.

- Ranching/Dairy

- Grocery and Beverage

- Restaurants

- Industrial/Manufacturing
